Richard Busch Named to Billboard’s 2020 Top Music Lawyers
LOS ANGELES, July 27, 2020 – Partner Richard Busch was named to Billboard’s 2020 Top Music Lawyers. Mr. Busch was recognized as a “copyright infringement maverick for music’s top stars and companies.”
Richard is Head of the Entertainment and Intellectual Property Sections of King & Ballow and has successfully represented clients in numerous trial and appellate court cases, including the recent successful defense of the “Blurred Lines” verdict appeal. Notable cases from this past year include representation of Eight Mile Style against Spotify and of Megan Thee Stallion in a suit related to the Billboard hit, “Happier.”
As Mr. Busch related in the Billboard spotlight, his start in copyright law began with a chance encounter in a New York City taxicab (read the full story here). He has gone on to dominate the industry in a slew of copyright infringement cases since that initial meeting.
Richard hosts the podcast, “Blurred Laws & Life” where he discusses modern legal issues in music and entertainment. He has been featured in numerous media outlets over the years, including a recent highlight in Rolling Stone.
He has also been featured on Billboard’s Power 100 list and has forged a path for artists and songwriters to protect their livelihoods. Billboard’s 2020 Top Music Lawyers implements a peer-nominated method with respect to those named.
