Michael A. Ransom

Michael A. Ransom is an Attorney in the Entertainment and Intellectual Property Sections of King & Ballow in Nashville, Tennessee.

Michael earned his undergraduate degree from Thomas Edison University and his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in Knoxville, Tennessee. While in law school, Michael served as the President of the Sports and Entertainment Law Society, Staff Editor for Transactions: The Tennessee Journal of Business Law, and was a member of the inaugural team sent by University of Tennessee College of Law to compete in the BMI Entertainment Moot Court Competition in New York City.  In addition, Michael was part of the first trademark law clinic at the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he prosecuted trademarks for clients and was awarded for his work with the Distinguished Student Attorney Award. Michael earned other awards for the highest class grade, for providing nearly 300 pro bono hours during the course of law school, and he received the inaugural Transactional Clinic Student Attorney Award for his work with the University of Tennessee College of Law Business Clinic. Michael published a case commentary for Varsity Brands, Inc. v. Star Athletica, LLC, which dealt with the copyrighting of utilitarian design features, and a handbook for students in trademark clinics, which has already been adopted as part of the clinical curriculum at the University of Tennessee College of Law.

Michael has also worked as an attorney representing a broad range of clients in entertainment and intellectual property matters, and he worked as a legal clerk for the Arts and Business Council of Greater Nashville and for a well-known entertainment and intellectual property firm in Santa Monica, California.
